Global strategy ? There is no such thing

I like Julien Song's Youtube channel. He plays game, and something hit me: there is no plan from the beginning that goes smoothly. No, it is more: "I should do that to save this pawn" or "opponent's about to get this strategical place ! What should I do ?".

There is no global strategy, no such thing as "after 20 moves, I know what to do". There are configurations to get the better of, leading sometimes to action plans. But nothing more.

It matters because sometimes, you may say "naaah, don't care about this past 3 actions, I just follow my plan and... Is that a checkmate ?". You may follow your plan and not pay attention to what opponent does. I never saw that in great players games. They have an intuition of what to do during a phase of the game. But it is more an ability to look at the board for each and every move, looking for the next opportunity. No plan about the next 15 moves.

My two cents
