CHESS TIP FOR CORRESPONDENCE PLAYERS
This chess tip is for correpondence players. Assume you are required to make a move every three days.
You believe you have an advantage and you see a tactic. It is some kind of material sacrifice. Of course, check and double check it against various possible defenses.
Now here is the tip. After you make your move [tactical sacrifice] and your opponent replies. Check out the new position-do not assume that your sacrifice is going to work.
After each move by your opponent after your sacrifice--check all the variations again. There might be a defense you overlooked.
I was looking at a recent game where this happened. If the player who made the initial sacrifice had checked out the possibilities after each move he would have seen a drawing line for his opponent and then with much cogitation he might have seen an alternative and winning line.
