We had family games. Bridge was one of them and I was quite good at this and was always the family champ even at age 9.
My father taught me to play chess and he would play me 1 or 2 or 3 games a day. But he was winning every single game! In fact he won more than 100 games in a row!
Then I won a game and 3 games later drew a game and then a couple of games later won 2 in a row. After that I won more than I lost to my dad and finally I was winning about 90% and he stopped playing me.
I was impressed about chess and decided it had to be a game of skill with only a small amount of luck and chess [and duplicate bridge] have been my main games ever since...
