First of all, I have an important announcement.

My next course is almost ready, and it will be launched next October 29th.

For now, all I can say is that it will teach one of the most important skills to improve at chess and that I’ll offer some unique bonuses during its launch.

Today I wanted to analyze some games where one side wins effortlessly.

Have you ever gone through the games of legends like Jose Raul Capablanca and thought that chess should not be that complicated?

You probably know that working on chess tactics is important to improve. That’s true. But as I regularly tell my students this is more of a basic requirement or at least these tactical skills should be combined with a good overall understanding of the game.

Whenever I see these seemingly easy wins, I notice that the tactical shots appear at the end when the game was pretty much already decided.

It feels as if most of the work is done by the superior understanding of the position, not by some complicated and long calculated lines.

I selected 4 instructive games and their critical positions to analyze them deeply and learn some important ideas. My goal with this lesson is to try to understand how to approach these positions.

Most of these games were played by former world champions, so we’ll learn from the very best. One of the key ideas that we’ll learn is how to have better pieces than your opponent, which is something that I’ll definitely include in my next course.
