(Spoiler alert) Unrealistic chess details I noticed in the miniseries 'The Queen's Gambit'
I enjoyed the miniseries A LOT, although from the pure chess point of view a lot of situations weren’t realistic, or they showed me that the characters were clearly actors and not top chess players. On the other hand, this is quite understandable (and fine) as producers need to make chess attractive for viewers (who are not necessarily top players) by exaggerating the scenes or making them more emotional.
Some unrealistic or unlikely scenarios that I saw:
SPOILER ALERT
Throwing the king when resigning

This just does not happen (in top level competition). The player who resigns only shakes hands
Beating top players at the 1966 Open in Las Vegas
This was Beth third tournament (if I follow the series accurately). We need to understand that a top player, such as a Grandmaster is an EXCEPTIONALLY talented player who has been studying and playing chess for many years. Even top players, like former world champion Robert James Fischer took years before beating top players. He beat a strong player at 13 in this famous game of the century but he already had YEARS of practice by that time.
Discussing moves without using chess notation
This is just like speaking a language partially, let’s say without using nouns and articles
Not annotating moves after EVERY MOVE is played
In fact this is mandatory in most tournaments with classical time control
Players move the pieces clumsily (making noise once they place them on the board), even when they are not on time trouble. They also capture pieces clumsily

Overall, players are very expressive during the games. This is very rare within top players.
Some of them, like former world champion GM Garry Kasparov, are quite emotional during games, but he is the exception, rather than the rule.
Talking during games (this is generally not allowed) and most importantly, talking in a FRIENDLY way right after someone wins.
This is VERY rare at top level, unless 2 friends, top players and good losers play against each other. As current world champion Magnus Carlsen once said: “Some people think that if their opponent plays a beautiful game, it's okay to lose. I don't. You have to be merciless.”
Similarly, standing up to congratulate your opponent after losing might happen, but it would be VERY rare

Beth losing all games to Benny at speed chess but them beating him and other top players SIMULTANEOUSLY shortly after, on the next episode.

Progress can be made, but such progress in such a short time frame is not likely. Top players might even have a hard time against master level players when playing simultaneously.
