How to Win at Chess
My friend Tom got me GothamChess' book, "How to Win at Chess'. So far it's been a great read; it approaches the game of chess in a way accessible to anyone from any background, including QR codes at the end of each chapter and lots of hilarious quips and anecdotes to keep the reader engaged. This book has played a pivotal role in my decision to begin taking chess more seriously, and I look forward to using Levy's advice to climb the rating ladder. My current goal is to reach 1000 rapid by the end of January. Before this book, I had no idea how to actively practice tactics and strategy, other than puzzles. However, puzzles will only help you so much, and so I reached a plateau at the 800 - 850 range. However, after only reading part 1 of the book so far, I can feel my grasp of the fundamentals of chess becoming much stronger. I am very excited to finish this book, and I'm sure that once I do it will continue to be a very useful tool in my journey.
I highly recommend the book to anybody wanting to learn chess. Whether you're a completely new player who doesn't even know how the pieces move, or a very experienced 1800 looking to brush up on their fundamentals, this book is the book for you.
This blog was not sponsored by GothamChess, i'm just a huge fan of his work.
