Why NOT to Play the English 1.c4?! Opening

It's nothing rated or serious but I got the better of someone extremely easily earlier at club night with the black pieces playing against his 1.c4?! which no-one has beaten me with it otb... yet Laughing

The checkmate is a pure classic Cool

He missed it lol, I saw it moves ago that's why I had to set it up! Although I give 1.c4?! an inaccuracy I'm only joking around it's just I don't like the opening, and I always refute it. Simples! Tongue Out

Yeah I was expecting (8.f4) but a good move would have been just to play 8.Bg2, even 8.Nf3 directly challenging the knight is ok here, anything but walking into a mate-in-1 Laughing

After Ne5, f4 immediately comes to mind as the move to play.

    Hey Pump,

I'll gladly play in in an English game to show you the poison you think you're immune to ;)

Yep, massive "WHOOPS" and "OUCH" lol shame it wasn't a rated game, but that's what a club "knock-about" practice is all about... trying and experimenting with new ideas and when they don't work, ditch them!

But when they do work - keep them and work them into your repertoire... with the help of an engine I will see if my 7.Ne5 was legit... if it is/was I will keep it in my symmetrical style defence! Thanks for the comments guys
