Born on October 9, 1993, in Bacoor, Cavite, Philippines, Wesley So discovered chess at age six and quickly showed remarkable talent. By 14, he became the youngest Grandmaster in Philippine history. His early years were marked by rapid success in local and international tournaments, setting the stage for a career at the highest level.

Climbing the Ranks
After moving to the U.S. in 2012, Wesley’s career took a major leap. In 2014, he began representing the United States, a decision that gave him access to elite competitions and a stronger support system. Known for his calm, strategic style, he quickly became one of the top players in the world.

Major Achievements
Wesley has won many prestigious tournaments, including the 2017 U.S. Championship, the 2016 Sinquefield Cup, and the 2021 Grand Chess Tour. He also became the first-ever FIDE World Fischer Random Chess Champion in 2019. His peak FIDE rating of 2822 places him among the highest-rated players in history.
