What is a complete Chess Training? Some people concentrate more on Openings, some on Middlegame, and some on Endgame, reasons being they like it or they think they are weak in that part of the game or simply they do not know where to start.

Well, the ideal training plan should cover all the aspects of the game. One should carefully allocate his training time to all 3 parts of the game. Most of the modern training methods suggest to work simultaneously on Opening, Middlegame and Endgame. But the question is how much time you need to dedicate to each topic.

I suggest all the beginners (below 1600 FIDE Rating) to allocate their training time as below:
1. Openings - 10%
2. Middlegame - 40%
3. Endgame - 50%

Intermediate and Advanced Players (1600 to 2200):
1. Openings - 20%
2. Middlegame - 40%
3. Endgame - 40%

Only experts spend more time on Openings as minor inaccuracies make a big difference and also because they have already mastered the Middlegame and Endgame theories.

In the next article I will discuss about how many Openings one should learn and how to choose the right opening for you.
