Learning the Endgame
The game of Chess is broadly divided into 3 parts viz. Opening, Middlegame and Endgame. The first 10 to 15 moves are considered to be the opening phase where both sides try to develop their pieces. The Middlegame is full of Tactics, Combinations, Strategy etc and the players look for a decisive advantage during this phase. Well the Endgame too has some tactics but there are fewer pieces on the board. Unlike Opening and Middlegame, the positions in the Endgame are repetitive in nature. You may encounter the similar position multiple times in your games and one bad move can affect the result of the game.
Thus, it makes sense to start learning Chess with the Endgame. The Opening theory changes from time to time and Middlegame ideas are endless. However the Endgame theory remains the same forever.
One can learn the Endgame by studying books like Silmans Complete Endgame, John Nunns Understanding Chess Endgame and Dvoretskys Endgame Manual.
