PRINCIPLES OF ATTACKING CHESS
Dear chess friends
There is different way to play when the position is of attacking nature and when the position is of strategic nature. When the position is of strategic nature you should look for weakness in opponents position whether it can be a piece ,pawn or square and try to improve your worse piece that is not taking active part in the game.
But when the position is of attacking nature the two most important principles are "Bring All Your Pieces in Attack" and Momentum.
Today we will see one of the most important principles of "Attacking Chess" that is "Momentum".Momentum means you have advantage but if you dont act quickly the advantage will disappear. It requires immediate action from you if you want to win. Most of the times it is development advantage if you cant execute attack immediately the advantage will disappear and the game will be equal. You have to act strongly in that certain moment in order to gain advantage. Now we will see the examples.
1.White to play
2.White to play
The solutions are
So i think now you have got some idea what the momentum is all about.Momentum means you have initiative and if you dont continue the attack the advantage will disappear quickly. If you want to study this theme further then you can study the book Attacking Manual 1 by Jacob Aagard from that these positions are taken. So dont confuse attacking chess with strategic chess the way to play both this positions are different.in strategic chess you have to look for weakness and improve your worse piece where as in attacking chess you should bring all your pieces in the attack and should not lose momentum if you get the chance.
