                      Many games are won through correct exchange and many games are lost due to wrong exchange.If you want to improve your game then you should master the concept of "Exchange".It is one of the most important element of chess strategy.

If we capture opponents piece and the opponent captures our piece then it is called an exchange.There are 4 main points to consider when you exchange the pieces.

You should exchange pieces if 

1.You can win material by exchanging pieces.If you win material after exchanging pieces then you should exchange the pieces.

2.You have material advantage

If you are piece or pawn up and can trade all the pieces then it is very easy to win in the ending than in the middlegame with queens on the board.So if you have material advantage then you should try to exchange the pieces to avoid unnecessary complications.

3.Your pieces move forward

If you can exchange opponents active piece or his good defensive piece then also your pieces move forward.So you should exchange the pieces if your pieceS move forward after it.

4.If you are under attack

If you are under attack then by exchanging pieces intensity of attack can be reduced.So the defender should try to exchange pieces if he can without any disadvantage.

5.If you can transpose into favourable ending after exchange

If after exchanging pieces you can transpose into winning or favourable ending you should exchange the pieces.
