RULE FOR SOLVING COMBINATIONS

                         All of us have solved combination at some point of our life.But it cant be easier if we know the rules to solve the combinations. First we will see what is the definition of combination? "A combination is a forced series of moves that either leads to gain of material or checkmate".So  "the series of the  forced moves" is the key to solve combinations.

So if we think what is the most forcing moves in chess?The answer is "Check Moves."When someone is in check either he has to move the king or bring a piece in between king and the piece that is giving check or capture the piece that is giving check.

So whenever we are solving combinations or tactics we have to see what are the possible check moves in this position.We have to give priorty to check moves first because they are the most forcing moves in chess.

After check which is the most forcing move in chess?

The answer is "Capture?" If we captures opponents piece most of the times oppponent is forced to recapture or he has to lose some material.Same thing happens with us.If someone captures our piece we have to recapture or we will lose material.The only exception is this case is intermediate moves that does not happens always.

So whenever solving the combinations we should look for the possible capture moves as they are the second most forcing move in chess after check moves.

But the real question is what we should do if both check and capture moves are not coming in the position we are solving?The answer is we should look for "Threat Moves" means we will capture on the next move.

Most of the difficult combinations contains threat move either in the beginning or in between.Threat moves are not easy to find.It is somewhat like you are driving the car on 5th gear and suddenly you put brake and drive the car on 1st gear on empty road. 

So next time whenever you solve combination or tactics first look for check moves then look for capture moves or if both are not coming then you should look for threat moves that will help you to solve combinations easily and always remember most of the difficult positions contains threat move on the very first move or in between  moves.
