The Difference between Studying Chess and Practicing Chess !!
I have been playing chess since the past three years and took a break the previous month (Oct) and returned this day . I use to be a 1500 rated on chess.com rapid format and always wondered of why am I not improving . When I was on a break I didn't leave chess completely but rather studied it daily for a month and now I noticed the value of it and came up with ,
The Difference between Studying Chess and Practicing Chess !!
Studying Chess:
Studying Chess emphasizes more on learning the theoretical aspects of the game . For me it use to begin with ; Middle game tactics then with the Endgame Drills and then in the end I use to study the games of the Grandmasters.
Tactics/Puzzles need to be practiced , as the same position may arise within the game and I personally have faced it and had a win over the game , cause the position that i solved in a puzzle came in the game.
A game in which tactics helped me find a win.
Having some time with Chess Books too proves a beneficial way to learn chess I am currently focusing on '' Silman's Complete Endgame Course '' which is helping me to think and calculate more widely.
Talking about studying the opening , the coaches which I had or the suggestions received from experienced players I have been told to study opening not now but rather when I would reach 2000 rating , till then I have been told to focus mainly on the endgame as it includes most tough calculations and although its the end part of the game but holds an account for it since the beginning(calculations).
Practicing Chess:
Practicing Chess focuses on applying the knowledge that is received by Studying it . All we need is to manage the time of studying and practicing in order to improve .
Regular games are required to gain experience about various positions cause the same one can arise later in another game.
Analyzing the game which we played irrespective of whether we have won it or lost it cause there are many things which we can learn from success as well as failure.
To conclude , if we want to seriously improve in the game of Chess we need to balance both of the needs and NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE WHEN YOU MANIFEST IT !!
