39th All Assam Chess Championship

Although, Ninth place out of 86 campaigner in the state championship is not bad. But what left me  heartbroken is due to the painful collapses that i had in the following games.

I reached the following position after 41st move against eventual champion Trailokya. Seeing the few seconds on his clock and 11 minutes on mine, my opponent uttered 'Draw' frustratingly which I refused .

Here any normal queen retreat could have fetched the win. But i had my own majestic novelty 42. Qg6?? and i was the one to resign immediately.

Trailokya, later, went on to become champion.

Before meeting Ranjit chutia, an overnight leader, i was 5/6 point. I have good control throughout our game. After the move 52nd i have already reached  a won king and pawn endgame and i was thinking to myself- Oh! i am 6 out of 7 now and need just 1 point out of remaining 2 round to secure a berth for National. I had some 18 minutes left in my clock while he had only 2 or 3 minutes. Even

the beginner knows how to win from such position.

My impatient hand raised again to move my king to h5 without giving a single look at c5 break. All of a sudden everything falls on the ground and my hand is empty. I was losing all hopes.

After the match i jestingly told my friend,"I could have accepted the defeat by Abhijit himself, but by his brother?"

In next round i won against seasoned chingkhei singh from black pieces.

(the game is adjourned after ...33. Qd3)

At the end, Madhab(ex-champ) edged me out and garnered the top 4 spot.

But I learned something: Never underestimate the hasty moves of Madhab sarma.

However the analysis of these games gives me confidence enough  to breakthrough the elite in state chess circuit soon.
