Endgames: Single Queen

Introduction

Hello again, and today, instead of talking about openings, and middlegames- we are here to talk about endgames- something just as important as the others.

One of the most common mistakes in the endgame is that even if you are winning- THE GAME IS STILL PLAYING!!!

Sometimes people are so confident in thinking that they will win- they go a bit extra-lousy in the endgame.  And that is when the opponent strikes back!

So heres what to do in an endgame so far:

  • Do not overestimate the position

We will talk more about endgames later- but right now we are here to focus on a certain type of endgame: The Single Queen endgame.

The Box Method

The Box method is when a queen forms a "box" around the king

The arrows represent a box - so anyways- everytime the king moves- you mimic that move with your queen to make the box smaller

Now when the king can only move to 2 squares - dont mimic the move- then it will be a draw.     Here is a sample game of what you should do

So as you can see, you have brought the game to an endgame, and you are ready to defeat the king- and when the king can only move in 2 squares you bring your king up to the oponents king to deliver checkmate

" Bye Bye, King!! "                                                                                                                               This is by far the most effecient strategy for me, and not many people have heard of it, (Including the computer!) so next time, try and consider the Box Method- as it is a very effecient way of checking the king.

So thats it for this blog, hope you check the Box Method out- and see you later
