Itroduction:

In the middle game, there are many things you should do.

  • Blunder Check
  • Castle before your opponent
  • Fight for the center
  • Get your rook into play before your opponent

Now what do these tips mean, and how can we use them in the middle game?

Getting into Blunder Check

Ok.

Blunder Check is a list of words I have used many times in my other blogs, but let's just review them

Every single move of the game think:

Is my move safe?

Is my king safe?

Does my opponent have any tactics?

What are the consequences of my move?

Is everything else ok?

These list of words is called the blunder check, to help you from playing blunders.

Getting into castling before the opponent & Getting your rook into play early

What you want to do is as soon as you can castle safely, and I mean that they don't have any tactics for when you castle or right now.

When you castle, you get your rook out of the corner. - That means that your rook can easily get into play.

So when you castle your rook can develop and help on the d or e file.

That means you can advance your pawns with another set of backup.                                             Another thing about your rooks is that they like to attack. - not give "backup".

So when the time is set, you can just put your rook in front of your castled king, and you will be a monster dominating space.

If they also castle the same place as you, (you castled kingside they castled kingside.. etc.)            Then you can use your rooks and queen to eventually threaten checkmate.

Getting into - Fighting for the Center

You probably know what this is, pushing your e and d pawns (c and f temporarily - usually not f)  to fight for the center of the board.

I used to learn: "The Importance Of The Center Never Diminishes" - that is, because if you gain control of the center, you have access to almost everywhere on the board- FAST

That is also partly why the most action in the openings usually take place over the center.

"A fight to get control".                                                                                                                       ____________________________________________________________________________
