Australian Minor U1600 2017 Part 1

Hi everyone!

I am back with a long overdue post about my experience at the Australian Minor 2017 tournament at the beginning of the year. The tournament had two sections the open and the minor. The minor was the section I played in and it was for players with an Australian Chess Federation (ACF) rating of less than 1600. The tournament was an 11 round tournament from the 2nd of January to the 12th of January and was played at Anglican Church Grammar School. The time control for the tournament was 90 minutes plus 30 seconds per move.

The Australian Open and Minor rotates around Australia, so this time when it was it in Brisbane, I decided that I wanted to be a part of such a big event since I don't have to travel interstate.

Here are my annotated games:

Round 1:

Was lucky to survive that after getting outplayed by my opponent. My opponent played quite well, while I was disappointed in the way I played as white in that game.

Round 2:

I didn't know if my attack was strong enough in that game, but it seems like it just worked.

Round 3:

Was quite disappointed that I made such a huge blunder with 21...Qxb4?? And also the 20...e5 move was pretty bad since it shatters my pawn structure for no good reason.

Round 4:

Was getting badly outplayed in that game, but I got lucky that my opponent got greedy with Nxc3 and fell into a trap.

 Round 5:

Round 6:

That will be all for part 1 of my experience at the Australian Minor 2017. Stay tuned for part 2! If you have any comments, questions or advice feel free to leave them in the comments.
