Attacking in chess is done by many players in different ways with different pieces. However a main motif that many use in an attack are sacrifices that usually open up new attacking ideas towards the opponents' king. Now, many times sacrificing a material of high value is very hard to do for many. Therefore a weapon that is an essential to every attack is the pawn. The pawn is known for having low value and doesn't do much except move forward. However it's true use comes into attacking and defending. The pawn's low value doesn't harm much to one as they sacrifice it to open new lines to the opponent's king. The pawns in the center bite away at many of the opponent's defense squares and give you new attacking squares. Attacking pawns also give the pieces behind it more room to attack such as rooks. Now that we know why the pawn is so useful lets look at some games!
