Okay, I am new at blogging so I know this is pretty weak. I have just played a tourney over on free chess of 5 minute blitz games. What did I learn from this, first of all know your openings well for blitz chess to give yourself a chance to win. When I say know your opening well, I mean know the alternate lines as well. Going down an alternate line that your opponent may not be familiar with will give you a time advantage. Time is the killer in blitz chess. For instance, if you play the Itallian Game, be familiar with all the variants including the gambits (Evans, Greco and Moller). A chess program like Fritz can really help you nail down the openings and variations on the theme.
