Dangerous Opening: The Vienna
Okay! Welcome back everyone! Sorry, it’s been a while since I posted something about openings.
Ah, let’s take a look here. The Vienna. Yes. I remember over the weekend, I totally got smoked by the Vienna. Let’s take a look at the first few moves that were played. (I’m Black
Both dangerous for both black AND white, but of course, I didn’t know how to play the Vienna at the time, so I was not as experienced.
Well white was trying to aim for that pawn on g7, so I moved a bit too quickly and played Qf6. Of course, he moved his knight to d5, attacking my queen and was also threatening to fork me and if I did protect the fork, whited queen on the other hand would pick off the pawn on g7 and probably win a rook. So I took the pawn on f2 and checked the king. The king moved to the side and I didn’t have anymore checks. (There are some checks, but I don’t think that anyone would want to do that.) So I advanced my d pawn and threatened white’s queen. Obviously, white took the pawn on g7, putting real forcing pressure under me. Let’s take a look at some more moves of the game, shall we?
Okay. I played some dopey moves but I have an excuse, “PRESSURE”. Okay. Maybe Magnus goes under lots of pressure and usually doesn’t blunder as much, but I’m young you know. Okay, well I got literally crushed by this third grader, and when I was in third grade, I could barely even mate. Anyways, I tried to be defensive against this guy and totally backfired because now I’m just down like 7 points or something and my opponent traded off the queens and now I’m like I wounded duck, trying to cross the road with 99.99 percent going to die. Okay, so I did TRY, at least try, to win a bishop later in the game and guess what? He finds this brilliant move and totally ruins my plans. Even though he’s so young, he sure can pack a big punch. Anyways, I was in the middle game, he had two rooks, an army of pawns, and like 2 or 3 minor pieces and me? I had nothing. Literally nothing. I ended up resigning to him because even if he tried to give away all his pieces, that would be really hard to. Anyways, the next round and previous rounds, I lost, so I only got like 1 out of like 4 points so like, I am frustrated that I’m going to the New York States with a rating of 1100, but guess what I saw this morning written on a post-it note on the kitchen table? MY RATING. And guess what?! It only dropped down 56 points!! I’m now currently exactly a 1200. Man! I went from 1256 to exactly 1200! That’s kinda cool and by the way, THANK YOU FOR READING!!!
