Drum roll please… The French Defense!!
The reason behind the French Defense is to have a good solid position.
e4, e6 is the main line behind the French Defense.
The next few lines are d4 then d5, both trying to take control of the center.
Then after, they trade the pawns away and castle.
It’s pretty even for both sides and both have very solid positions and black wants to stay that way so white can’t penetrate the defense. That’s why it’s called “The French DEFENSE.”The reason why The French Defense is so good because black just gets a solid and good position. Also because analysis says that is the most best opening.

The next is the Sicilian! Yes that’s right. The Sicilian is probably the most popular and strongest opening of all time. Played many times by famous grandmasters like Bobby Fischer. The main lines in the Sicilian is e4, c5.
The main reason behind c5 is to take control of the center right away. Then advance the d and e pawns to take control of critical squares on the board, and later in the game, rich tactics and attacks for black.
Here are the next few moves:
The queen did not take the knight because if it did, they would loose a rook or even get checkmated.
But when the bishop went to d7, it blocked all the opportunities and if black took the knight, there is no tactic in taking the rook.
Now lets take a look at a game Bobby Fischer played.
Bobby Fischer was white and lost but played a wonderful game. Black played the Sicilian and got really good attacks and tactics as well.

The Giuoco Piano. Probably the most popular and strongest opening of all time. Analysis thinks your up by 1 pawn!
The main lines are…
Of course there are other ways like just taking the pawn right away and not playing e5. But then again, you can play d3.
If white plays e5 attacking the knight, you can play d5 attacking the bishop.
The next way of playing the Giuoco Piano is taking the pawn right away, attacking the bishop. Black would do bishop check.
But that is not the best way to play the Giuoco Piano because if you block with the knight, it’s pinned and you can take the pawn on e4 and pile pressure on the knight. The correct way to block is with the bishop and black’s bishop will take back and white will take back with the knight on b1 and protect the pawn.
