How to Play Tactical Chess
Hello everyone. Today we are going to discuss about how to play tactical chess.
Now lets start!
Now, What is a tactical chess player?
While positional is like getting control of squares and space on the board. So tactical players would be those who attack and sacrifice pieces for advantages, while positional players are those who put their pieces on key squares for space advantage to limit what the opponent can do.
This is the definition given by Google.
Some of the best Tactical Chess players are Mikhail Tal, Garry Kasparov, Vaselin Topalov
.Now lets look at some of the tips to improve Tactical Chess.
- Improve your calculation: You can improve your calculation by solving a lot of puzzles.
- Study Checkmate patterns: You can study many checkmate patterns by solving puzzles and by studying master games. This will be useful when you are playing a match and you see a similar position.
- If you have a bad piece, try to exchange it very quickly: For Example: if you should try to exchange it or you should try to make it active by sacrificing your pawns at the right time to bring your bishop out of the pawn chain.
- Try to eliminate Your opponent's defenders: Opponent's defenders are the pawns at the castled side or pieces near the king guarding it. If there is no pieces near your opponent's king then you can sacrifice your pieces to drag the king out. But make sure you should calculate before sacrificing your piece.
- When you have a good position, make sure that all your pieces are defended and look for the threats of the opponent: Many players make this mistake often as they become overconfident , they would not see the threats.
Now I will prefer some of the tactical chess openings:
White: The Ruy Lopez and The King's Indian Attack
Black: The Sicilian Defense [ Dragon Variation] and The Sicilian Defense [ Najdorf Variation]
