My Favorite Queen Sacrifice Games
Hey everyone, and welcome to my blog playing chess. In this blog, I would be sharing with you 3 of my personally favorite queen sacrifice games. But before that, let's understand queen sacrifice.
In chess, the Queen is the most powerful piece. And losing the queen usually loses the game. But in some cases, a player intentionally gives up his/her queen to obtain a winning position, or winning even more material, and most often checkmating the opponent.
RICHARD RETI V/S SAVIELLY TARTAKOWER (1910):
The first example is taken from a game between R.Reti and S.Tartakower. Reti sacrifices his Queen on move 9 and the game ends on move 11.
PAUL MORPHY V/S DUKE OF BRUNSWICK + COUNT ISOUARD DE VAUVENARGUES (1858):
As you can see, there were two players on the black side, but Morphy emerged victorious after being on the lead for the whole game.
STEPAN M. LEVITSKY V/S FRANK JAMES MARSHALL (1912):
Although most of you would know this game, but if you don't, you would be surprised to see this sacrifice that F.J. Marshall made.
Conclusion:
So, which of the following was your favorite? Is there another queen sacrifice that you think I should have included? If yes, share it in the comments section below.
Two more players, Alexander Alekhine and Nicolas Rossolimo used the same concept as Marshall in their games. If you want me to share those with you, please mention it in the comments section below. Till then, goodbye!
