Trying to play original chess without following the book openings

Earlier, I was trying to play openings from book which started seeming like boring due to so much memorization. So now, I have started playing opening moves which are out of the book and I try to be as creative or original as possible.

After starting to play in this manner, I have improved my game as well as my ratings. Also, my love for the chess game has increased even more. The main reason being that I reach such a complex and interesting middlegame positions which are almost never seen when playing book openings.

This keeps the interest level high and also throws off the opponent who relies on book moves and forces them to be creative and original in their play.

Are anybody trying something like this? Would like to hear from you all.
