Inspired by ChessBase's #momentsofgenius Chess World Champions collection, here are a few graphics I created of some of the women in chess in my life along with their memorable games. In this blog post is an analysis of Linda's memorable game.

GM Penguin for Linda Chang

In Linda's memorable game, she plays white and opens with the Grand Prix in response to the Sicilian. Out of the opening, we see her pieces have been actively developed and are ready to put pressure on the opponent.
Linda plays 13. e5, forcing black's knight to retreat and beginning her march into enemy territory with followup moves such as Rad1, Ba4, and Nb5.

After 17...Rd8, Linda has gained a large space advantage and options to continue include Ng5, threatening mate on h7 as well as the f7 pawn. If black captures the knight with Bxg5, this allows the knight on b5 to come to d6, where it threatens both the queen and the f7 pawn.

With a similar plan, Linda opts for Rd6, and when black captures with the bishop, she brings her knight to g5 and begins her kingside attack.

After 23. Qxe6+, white actually has mate in 8 with 23...Kh8 24. Nf7+ Kh7 25. Bd3+ Kg8 26. Nxh6+ Kh8 27. Qg8+ Rxg8+ 28. Nf7#

Checkmate by smothered mate! It's not too often you get to see one of those in a classical game, so well done Linda for a very memorable game indeed.
