In this game Romanovsky plays the exchange variation of the Spanish, trading a bishop for one of black's knights, and then proceeds to prove the superiority of his knights over black's bishops.

Romanovsky was a player that did well in the early Soviet Championships and wrote one of the classic Russian books on the middlegame that is luckily now available to English readers from Quality Chess Books as Soviet Middlegame Techniques. In the early 90s there was a 2 volume edition of the work published by American Chess Promotions.
