Training Update

I worked through 4 more games in Understanding Chess Move by Move today. 6 more to go to finish the book. The one I probably enjoyed most today was Kasparov - Shirov, Horgen 1994. Kasparov played an exhcange sacrifice to solidify his control of d5 and the light squares.

I was planning on reading some of Rowson's 7 Deadly Chess Sins for enjoyment this afternoon, but I ended up falling asleep and napped until early evening.

This weekend I started working through Igor Khmelnitsky's Chess Exam. I did 15 positions so far out of the 100. I got 71/100 points in the first 10 which equated to a rating of 2051 (which as Igor says should be taken with a grain of salt), but got off to a slow start in the 2nd batch by getting a little careless in one case and overlooking a reply in my analysis for another. I am still on track for a solid score in the 2nd 10 positions though with 30/50 points at the halfway mark.

I didn't get my planned training in today of reading more of Amateur's Mind (Sunday is strategy day), but I will make it up sometime this week, most likely tomorrow. I was just in the mood for more of Nunn's annotated games after playing through Short - Timman yesterday. I need to make up some endgame work as well so maybe tomorrow will be a makeup day and I will count today as Monday's session since that is a day scheduled for going through annotated games.
