Sherando Tourney
I just returned from a local school leauge tournament at Sherando Virginia. And I am proud to anounce that I officially placed 2nd out of 14 (due to a erroronous tie-break system). I lost no matches, achieved a draw in 2 matches, and won 2 matches (including the first place winner who won 3 matches).
As for the scoring system, the first round is based on your direct preformance 1 point for a win, 1/2 for a draw, and 0 for a loss. Both I and the offical 1st place winner had three in this system. The first tie-break is based on who you played. You get a subscore based on who you played (i.e. I got nine tb points for those I beat, the winner got 6 pionts for those he beat and three for losing to me.) The final tb I got to is the addition of all your subscores as the tournament proceeds. In this one I lost due to having my first draw early in the tournement. The fact that I beat him officially head-to-head was never considered.
However, despite this it was my best finish ever, and I beat my long time rival in this my final tournament as part of the New Oxford Chess Team!!!
