I may not be an expert at chess, but I this is for people who want to improve on chess who are around or below 1600. Now I'm assuming that most of those who read this are going to say "Everyone has told me to study tactics" but I don't think that's the best way. Don't get me wrong, tactics are important in chess, but choosing good openings is also important too. So for players under 1000 here's a game for you:

Now you all probably look down on people who use the scotch. Why? Because it only gives drawing chances. Just think about it though, the scotch is not that popular which gives it an extra edge. Nakamura has used the scotch multiple times though against other grandmasters. My advice? Go learn an opening or just play an opening without learning it. It will force you to use tactics. It can be something as simple and sane as the Scotch game, or it can be some of the craziest openings you ever played.
