Improving at atomic

Have you tried atomic chess? It is great fun, mainly because there is much more action right at the start of the game. Atomic is far more tactical than standard chess. Explosive is the word!

Most beginners of atomic lose playing black within four moves. This is because they don't know the fatal traps. Black can doom themselves even by making the wrong first move.

To fix this problem and advance towards an intermediate standard you need to know the correct moves for black in the most frequent openings. Here are three lines you need to know:

1) 1 Nf3 f6 2 e3 the correct response is 2... e6 

2) 1 Nh3 h6 2 d4 the correct response is 2... e6

3) 1 Nc3 e5 2 e3 the correct response is 2... d5
