20th Battle of the Kings

            The Royal College Chess Club is geared up to host this prestigious event for the 20th time on the 8th, 9th and 10th of January under the captaincy of W.M.K.V.B.Wijekoon, making it the only chess tournament organized by any school in Sri Lanka which has lasted this long.  

             In order to celebrate this important milestone it will be an    international rated tournament for the first time ever. Being the 1st and only international rated schools team championship and the only international rated event organized by a school is certainly the cherry on the top. A participation of at least 40 teams, 280 players is expected, making it the team event with the largest participation in the Chess calendar, after the National Schools and Sri Lanka Schools Games. A tournament of such caliber would undoubtedly offer priceless exposure to the most accomplished players as well as the most novice amateurs.

            To accommodate the increasing number of participants and to provide better facilities the tournament will be held at the top floor of the new ‘EDEX building”, overlooking the grandeur of Royal College and Colombo 07. To spice things up a “Crazy” tournament will be held for the 4th time this year as well, along with many more surprises. With the unwavering support of the college staff, old boys as well as the kind sponsors, it is safe to assume that the Royal College Chess Club will pull off a memorable event from which each player, teacher, coach and parent will take home something special.
