Inner West Swiss - Round 1

Inner West Swiss - Round 1

My very first FIDE rated game!

A bit of background before I show the game. I'm 39 years old, been playing for a little over three and a half years, and I'm an absolute chess fanatic. My goal is to become a Candidate Master before the age of 45.

On to the game itself. I didn't know who my opponent would be until I turned up on the night and the draw didn't show his FIDE rating so I wasn't sure what to expect. I'd played a few casual OTB blitz games against expert/master level players in recent weeks and they estimated my playing strength at around the 1700 level, higher than my initial estimate of 1550-1600. I know my chess.com blitz rating is only in the mid 1400's but I'm truely awful at blitz, losing almost every game on time. I'm too much of a perfectionist to play decent blitz but longer time controls online don't make sense because of all the rage quitters.
