Resignation in the Lion City: Round 1

The Chess World Championship kicked off in Singapore with an electrifying Round 1, setting the stage for an intense battle of strategy and skill. Even before the match many thought the match would be a clean sweep to the challenger Gukesh Dommaruju, considering Ding Liren's poor performance across many tournaments after his win against Ian Nepomniachtchi in 2022. But the result was far from expected with the champion proving why he deserves to stay on the throne with a decisive game with the black pieces in the first game. With most of the world expecting a loss or draw for Ding, it was the best start to the match that Ding could have asked for, with the final post game press conference being fairly normal.
