best free chess software

I recently tried fritz 12 and i found it to be difficult to use .For example I tried to

import png into a fritz database and I found it amazingly difficult to do.It was also difficult to delete a fritz database. So I unstalled fritz 12 , downloaded scid and within  minutes has imported my pngs into a database .

what do chess.com players thing are a good suite of free tool for anaylsis of games ,creating a database of game so that I have my own opening explorer etc?

I have not had much experience with chess software and how much benefit do players get from using these tool to analyse their games
