the Italian game is all the rage.  lets see a live game

Played at the highest level.

Now let me walk through a successful opening from Black's side

Position 1:Black to play  Anand-Nakamura 2017

Black went to re-rout the knight from c6 to e7 and g6.

Position 2: White to play

in the same game, @hikaru just played 11..Be6 to exchange the bishops. Black was able to draw the game, here's the full game.

Now there are many subtleties and move order possible for each side.

Here's what I think is promising from the White side after analyzing this opening.

Position 3: White to play

Black is intending to continue the plan with Be6 which is quite effective.

but in this game, White continues d3-d4 and retreats the bishop on d3. This means white does not want to proceed to exchanging light-squared bishops.

it is worth noting that Grischuk playing against Korobov in the world cup ( first game) has lots of experience as he defeated a strong opponent in the same opening in 2019.
