Magnus Carlsen Tweak to Modern Defense

He is playing a 960 Freestyle chess tournament, but I came across a system he likes a lot with Black to play for a win. 

I call this the "Carlsen Tweak to Modern Defense " or " Modern Defense with ..Nc6"

Multiple move orders can be used, but here's how we get there

Objectively, is this near equal ? lets consult Stockfish 16, the best chess engine in the world

First of all, the 4th move 5.a3, I have no idea why Stockfish recommends it. But Be3,d5,h3 all give a fairly significant evaluation in White's favor. 

but cheaters aside, we are playing against humans, so Black is asking White how to proceed.

we have to take into consideration that ..Nc6 that early is not common. Black usually plays ..Bg7,..c6,..b5 which White will have faced in the past.  especially in blitz, playing less known moves is key from a psychology point of view.

ok, now what are Magnus Stats in his Modern Defense set-up after 4..Nc6 with Black ?

Mostly blitz but 1 bullet game as well. we are talking IM and GM level for White pieces !

Now not only Magnus is using this system but another world class GM Grischuk used it online.
