Bobby Fischer - 11th Chess World Champion

Bobby Fischer, a chess prodigy who rose to fame as the 11th World Chess Champion. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on March 9, 1943 and excelled at chess from a young age. Fischer began his chess journey at the age of six and quickly rose through the ranks. He became a Chess Grandmaster at the age of 15, the youngest person to accomplish this feat at the time.

Fischer's rise to fame came in 1972 when he defeated Russian Chess Grandmaster Boris Spassky in a match that came to be known as the "Match of the Century." The match was held in Reykjavik, Iceland and was watched by millions of people around the world. After the game was adjourned, Spassky resigned the next day without resuming play.

Despite a turbulent career, Fischer remains one of the greatest chess players of all time. He is remembered for his impressive tactical ability, aggressive playstyle and dedication to the game. He had a number of notable victories throughout his career. One of those was his win against Donald Byrne in the "Game of the Century." This game was played in 1956 when Fischer was just 13 years old and saw Fischer utilize the Grunfeld Defense, launching a powerful attack against Byrne's position. The game ended with Fischer mating Donald with his rook.

Fischer's chess career was marked by a number of controversies, such as his refusal to defend his world title in 1975. In addition, he displayed odd behavior in the years that followed. He eventually withdrew from the chess world and lived a reclusive life until his death in 2008.
