Titles..?

As a beginner in the chess world, I have learnt about the important system of titles in the sport. According to chess.com, "Chess titles are titles awarded to players based on their skill, performance, and rank". These titles are provided to players by FIDE(and other organisations, respectively) all around the world. They are essential in ensuring that matches in championships/tournaments are fair and balanced. Imagine being a total noob(ELO <1000) and having to play against Magnus Carlsen(ELO 2830) or Hikaru Nakamura(ELO 2794)🫠. You might as well get ready to dig your own grave🪦. While you're at it, don't forget to include me in your will🫥.

And...I've made you all suffer reading a looong paragraph, so without further ado, ladies and gentlemen, what are these titles?

(arranged from lowest-ranked title to highest-ranked title, aka ascending order) Note: ELO is the name of the rating system, named after Arpad Elo.

WCM - Woman Candidate Master (2000)

CM -  Candidate Master (2200)

NM -  National Master (2200)

WFM - Woman FIDE Master (2100)

FM - FIDE Master (2300)

WIM - Woman International Master (2200)

IM - International Master (2400)

WGM - Woman Grandmaster (2300)

GM - Grandmaster (2500)

If you have joined/will join any chess organisations or clubs that are not FIDE, you might have noticed that they use other titles to recognise and acknowledge players.

And yes, there are titles only eligible for women. I don't know why and I don't make the rules. Maybe ask FIDE? I don't think they'll answer.. Women are still able to achieve titles like GM(grandmaster), IM(international master) and so on while men are not able to achieve titles that, well, include the word 'woman'. Do note that I am NOT trying to be sexist in any way so if you wanna go kabooms💥 then suit yourself.
