How to beat an FM in 7 minutes
My chess has been going pretty well recently, winning a lot and gaining lots of points (disregard the 9 year old I drew at the club this week....), so after I beat an FM in a rated rapid game this evening I thought it was worth sharing. Not only due to my spectacular moves but because there was some theory and tactics which maybe interesting to some. Additionally in my youth I was very susceptible to 'nerd sniping' where an obvious and good looking move must be played. Now I am much more skeptical but seeing these even now I want to refute them simply. However, as you will see sometimes avoiding the 'obvious' refutation can be good too.
First I offer 5 positions for consideration.
1.)
This is a position I struggle with today. Nd6 is obviously the best move right? How Ke7 is a valid response disrupts my philosophy of chess...What do you play?
2.)
Computer says Qd2, how a human could play this IDK what do you play?
3.)
b5... scary what is best what do you want from this position...
4.)
Nb1 only move, right?
5.)
Even FMs don't like Qs amazing! I hope if I get to FM I resign before playing moves like Qb2...
Finally the score...
