This could have been easier!

I played Kevin Bowman tonight in our club championship match. Playing black, I guessed Kevin would open with either g3 or b3 and I have a reasonable system against these modern openings. Things seemed to be going according to plan until I went a pawn up, tried to consolidate the position and was fretting somewhat as Kevin's counter attack didn't seem to be running out of steam!

Kev managed to get himself into some time trouble and perhaps this contributed towards a tactical miscalculation towards the end of the game. Kevin still played better than I did on Monday night (see previous disaster on an earlier blog!). I was pleased to win this and felt that I stayed reasonably cool under pressure and didn't miss anything too obvious!
