When to play the Sicilian Defense

As you know. The Sicilian is one of the best responses to E4, but you should only use it if you know the theory well. From recent games I have played using the Sicilian I have found out to not use it quite yet. If you use the Sicilian before you know the theory well you will hurt yourself more than your opponent. You will relinquish the center to your opponent and be down by a considerable advantage if you don’t know the theory well enough.  In many games I have used the Sicilian in I have lost due to my lack of knowledge of the theory. This is why I believe you shouldn’t use the Sicilian until you know the theory well. Then and only then should you use it.
