The Scotch Game
The Scotch Game, or Scotch Opening, is a opening that begins with the moves:
it's one of the best opening in chess and point to dominate the center. Also good player find this opening hard to beat.
White aims to dominate the centre by exchanging their d-pawn for Black's e-pawn. Black usually plays 3...exd4, as they have no good way of maintaining their pawn on e5 .
- Pros
White gain a big space advantage
Black is unable to maintain the e5 pawn - Cons
It releases the tension very early.
Recapturing the d4 pawn will require a second move by the white knight.
The e4 pawn can later come under attack.
Variations
The Scotch Game doesn't have as much theory as other openings. Thats why it's a good idea for players to familiarize with this opening
- Schmidt Variation
in this moment black is more developed that white, but, white can take the black horse and ruin the black position
- Classical Variation
In this variation black attack the knight with the bishop and also develop another piece
- Scotch Gambit
This is the last variation that we will see in this blog but its (in my opinion) one of the most powerfull variation
in this variation white give a pawn to develop itself in a very good position.
To sum up: the scotch game is very powerfull and one of the most good opening to study! see you next time!
