Don’t rage quit in the opening!

Today I played a very quick game where my opponent resigned on move 8! However, as we shall see, they basically just gave me free ELO points because were we basically still dead even, and if anything, they were slightly ahead.

The insight from this game is that you simply shouldn’t rage quit and you need to know your own openings! I was actually admiring the lovely geometry of the board – the apparently free bishop wasn’t actually free and I had assumed my opponent had set this up given how quickly they played their moves. When they resigned after “losing a piece”, I realised that their good position was more seredipity than planned! Nonetheless, don’t rage quit in the opening!

I hope you found this game interesting, and thanks for watching!

Hi!  I'm vitualis, the chess noob, and I run the "Adventures of a Chess Noob" YouTube channel and blog.  I'm learning and having fun with chess!

I restarted playing chess recently after my interest was rekindled by the release of "The Queen's Gambit" on Netflix.  I mostly play 1 or 2 games a day, and am trying to improve (slowly!).  I document some of my games and learning experiences on my blog and YouTube channel from the perspective of a beginner-intermediate player!
