chess noob Quick Wins! is a series of short videos, to demonstrate very quick wins!  As a beginner, you become aware of the Scholar's Mate and the Fool's Mate, but neither of these show up in real games.  However, there are tricky quick checkmates and wins that occur, even at the intermediate level of chess.

Today's game is is a demonstration of why the Englund Gambit is POISON against unprepared Queen's Pawn Opening players!

We go down the main line of the Englund Gambit Accepted up to the attack of the "Killer Black Queen" of the Englund (https://adventuresofachessnoob.com/2022/10/15/black-killer-queen-of-the-englund-gambit/) (1. d4 e5 2. dxe5 Nc6 3. Nf3 Qe7 4. Bf4 Qb4+). The interesting thing here is that every move by White is the best move!

Against the triple fork, White made an understandable move, (5. Qd2) aiming to trade queens, that unfortunately for them, was a terrible blunder [-4.9]. Some players with the White pieces don't recognise that the target for the queen is the b2 pawn, and then potentially the rook on a1. White attempted to counterattack, but this counterattack is a mistake as it's ignoring a potential mortal threat. This might not be obvious to the unprepared (1. d4) player as my Black queen seems to on a solo expedition.

Indeed, on move 8, White seals their fate with a forward advance of their knight (8. Ne5) as there is now a forced [-M3]. My queen now captures the knight with check (8... Qxb1+) and White seemingly can block with queen and hence, a queen trade (9. Qd1).  However, with White's smashed queenside, the bishop now leaps forward from the back rank with check and then unstoppable mate (9... Bb4+ 10. c3 Bxc3#)!  GG!

Hi!  I'm vitualis, the chess noob, and I run the "Adventures of a Chess Noob" YouTube channel and blog.  I'm learning and having fun with chess!

I restarted playing chess recently after my interest was rekindled by the release of "The Queen's Gambit" on Netflix.  I mostly play 1 or 2 games a day, and am trying to improve (slowly!).  I document some of my games and learning experiences on my blog and YouTube channel from the perspective of a beginner-intermediate player!
