chess noob Quick Wins! is a series of short videos, to demonstrate very quick wins!  As a beginner, you become aware of the Scholar's Mate and the Fool's Mate, but neither of these show up in real games.  However, there are tricky quick checkmates and wins that occur, even at the intermediate level of chess.

The Englund Gambit is probably my top opening for quick wins! The interesting thing is that most of these don't involve successful completion of the trap line. The Englund Gambit is simply a very tricky opening!

My opponent accepted the gambit, and we went down the Main Line (1. d4 e5 2. dxe5 Nc6 2. Nf3 Qe7). On move three White decides to give up the pawn on e5 and develops their other knight instead. This is a perfectly good option, but it makes my approach simple. Where it is possible to recapture the e-pawn in the Englund Gambit, it's usually good, so (4... Nxe5).

Neither my opponent or I play the most accurately the next few moves, and we return close to equal with White only having a slight advantage. However, in this somewhat unfamiliar position for White, they blunder with (9. Bg5). White is attacking my queen with their bishop, defended by their knight on f3. However, they missed the fact that I could remove the defender and gain a point of tempo as it comes with check (9... Nxf3+). This means that on the next move, we have (10... Qxg5) and we're about to finish the opening with White being a full minor piece down and having given up the bishop pair. White, having blitzed out the opening in a 15+10 game, opted to resign with more time on the clock than when they started. GG!

Hi!  I'm vitualis, the chess noob, and I run the "Adventures of a Chess Noob" YouTube channel and blog.  I'm learning and having fun with chess!

I restarted playing chess recently after my interest was rekindled by the release of "The Queen's Gambit" on Netflix.  I mostly play 1 or 2 games a day, and am trying to improve (slowly!).  I document some of my games and learning experiences on my blog and YouTube channel from the perspective of a beginner-intermediate player!
