Chess.com has recently released a fantastic new feature, the 2023 Year in Review. This provides some summarised data regarding your year playing chess on the platform, and can be accessed by clicking the icon/logo shown in the sidebar on chess.com website and app.

I go through my reflections and thoughts in detail in the video, but a few snaps shots from the summary!

If you have a diamond subscription this is also a great opportunity to go through the chess.com Insights feature (https://www.chess.com/insights) and set the analytic time window for the entire year! I personally find this tool quite helpful in developing a better understanding of my performance, including identifying things that I didn't already know.

For instance, things that I'll need to work on for 2024:

  • Learn and practice a more effective response to the French Defense when playing with the White pieces
  • Improve identification and avoid missing checkmate-in-one moves
  • Improve my use of the bishops - improving my vision of diagonals

Have you looked at your Year in Review and Insights for 2023? What have you found? Please consider sharing your thoughts with a comment!

All the best for the holiday season and have a Happy New Year as we move into 2024!

Hi!  I'm vitualis, the chess noob (aka chessnoob64), and I run the "Adventures of a Chess Noob" YouTube channel and blog.  I'm learning and having fun with chess!

I restarted playing chess recently after my interest was rekindled by the release of "The Queen's Gambit" on Netflix.  I mostly play 1 or 2 games a day, and am trying to improve (slowly!).  I document some of my games and learning experiences on my blog and YouTube channel from the perspective of a beginner-intermediate player!
