Quick Wins #17 | Stafford Gambit - 9 move win!
#PetrovDefense #StaffordGambit
chess noob Quick Wins! is a new series of short videos, to demonstrate very quick wins! As a beginner, you become aware of the Scholar's Mate and the Fool's Mate, but neither of these show up in real games. However, there are tricky quick checkmates and wins that occur, even at the intermediate level of chess.
This was game by a subscriber (@jschwar2000) who played with the black pieces who played and sprung a rather brilliant trap in the Stafford Gambit.
One of the powers of the Stafford Gambit is the rapid development and opening up of the centre files. This gives the opportunity, should White not be careful, of an immediate and devastating attack down the centre against the opponent's king. In this game, White's (6. Bg5) attempting to pin the knight to the queen was a game changing blunder [-4.8]. They avoided one trap with the seemingly hanging queen (a poisoned piece that leads to checkmate), but couldn't avoid the next that resulted in the loss of their own queen. Move 8 - emotional damage!
