Race to checkmate with Grand Prix Attack!
With the white pieces, I play e4, and when I can, I play the Vienna Game. However, that requires my opponent with the black pieces to oblige by playing e5. Simply, where the opponent plays another move, such as the Sicilian Defense with c5, I have to rely on something else. Against the Sicilian, my go to is the Grand Prix attack, and it can catch some opponents unawares, as was the case in this game where I managed to win by checkmate in 13 moves.
In this game, I managed to build the long chain of pawns and psychologically, it can encourage some players capture down the chain – effectively like a gambit. Although this is objectively bad for me, the focus on capturing what appears to be free material allowed me to create a checkmate trap, that my opponent didn’t see, resulting in a blundered mate in 1!
I hope you enjoyed this video, and thanks for watching!
