Reversal of fortunes – the Giuoco Piano is tricky!
Today, I played a weird game where both my opponent and I thought that I was losing, but then there is a reversal of fortunes and I win by checkmate in a few moves! The Giuoco Piano is definitely not my favourite opening to play against as I have a preference for more open rather than positional games. However, this game did make me smile as it was so unexpected.
The insight that I have from this game is that you need to be careful with these bold aggressive attacks in what is a positional system. What occurred in this game is that after the opponent’s attack was spent, my pieces were basically still in position for an attack of their own. With the rook being the only real defender of the king, it was overwhelmed by the combination of queen, knight and bishop.
I hope you enjoyed this video, and thanks for watching!
